COVID-19 Tennis playing guidelines/update

Following the latest NSW Government restrictions the WTC courts will be open for singles and doubles bookings provided all players comply with the NSW Government health advice (groups of 5 are permitted, excluding children under 12, all those aged 16 and over must be fully vaccinated).

Current restrictions limit public gatherings and exercise groups to five people (excluding children under 12, all those aged 16 and over must be vaccinated). To check the current restrictions for COVID-19 please click here.

All tennis and coaching should be carried out in accordance with the government and Tennis NSW guidelines. 

It is your legal and social responsibility to comply with the current Federal and state government directives in relation to COVID-19.

Westleigh Tennis Club Inc. encourages all participants to download the COVIDSafe app, scan the QR code and check-in before entering the courts to help speed up the process of identifying anyone who has been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.

Hornsby Council are performing their own independent patrols of parks in the area to ensure social distiancing guidelines are being observed. The police are also patrolling and on the spot fines will apply to court hirers who do not adhere to the current laws.

A summary of the guidelines for playing on the courts is as follows:

  • Playing tennis is recommended to be limited to those who are healthy and have not been in contact with persons who have COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms and are not in the high risk category. The high risk category is not recommended to play and includes any person over 70 years (over 60 years for people with pre-existing medical conditions, over 50 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with pre-existing medical conditions).
  • Only 2 persons on the court at any time (excluding members of the same household). 
  • Maintain social distancing at all times. That is, at least a racket and arm length away. Any hand shaking is to be replaced with racket touching.
  • Wash hands before and after play, as well as after sneezing, going to the bathroom, etc.
  • You should minimize touching anything except your racket and tennis balls.
  • Bring your own tennis racket, drink bottle, towel and hand sanitiser and do not touch other hirer's tennis balls or equipment.
  • Wipe the lock for the court gate before and after locking with sterilised wipes. During play leave the court gate ajar to minimize touching.
  • You must arrive and leave as close as possible to your alotted court hire time. Do not wait near the back of the courts.
  • Do not change ends during play.
  • No groups or spectators accepted.
  • No socialising outside the courts.
  • The Club House will remain closed. (It is only to be accessed to turn the lights on and off)

COVID-19 is a communicable disease and every effort is made to minimise the possibility of transmission at WTC-managed premises. However, in the current environment, risks cannot be fully eradicated. WTC shall not be held liable for any injury or health ailment (such as infection by communicable disease) caused by the use of WTC-managed facilities. Court hirers do so at their own risk.
